How to Get off the Airplane

leave a comment »

I was watching a Youtube video yesterday which showed the ordeal experienced by someone on a flight from JFK to DFW which was held on the tarmac for seven hours. No one was permitted to leave the airplane. This is nonsense. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, and you absolutely must get off the airplane, tell a flight attendant that you are having chest pains. The plane will return to the gate and EMT’s will arrive. When they arrive, tell them you feel better. They will either take you to the hospital or tell you to see your doctor. In either case, you’re off the plane.

This technique should only, only be used in an emergency. Until the FAA promulgates reasonable rules to cover the “imprisoned passenger” scenario, self-help is the last, but unfortunately, only resort.
